Just a short note to compliment the _A Murder in the Company of the Vespertine_ comp. An interesting and involving listen that I have now enjoyed several times. The first M-Tec track on it is some of the best I've heard yet from said artist. And I even (really, really) like the Bola track. Most of the other groups on it I'm not very familiar with, but Lazerboy and Dakota Suite contribute strong stuff. Tuneful and wistful. while not groundbreaking; sometimes it's nice to hear where we came from before we can locate our current position (or some crap like that). Good listening from a label I'd never heard of before. Anyone heard their previous comp, _An Evening in the Company of the Vespertine_? I'd be interested to know if the atmosphere is the same on it ... I've just listened to Vespertine mp3s and feel a little disappointed. Of course it's technically very well done and Bjork's vocals are good as usual, but something is missing. It sounds like 'selmasongs part 2', the same depressive mood and children choirs on the background. There are no songs on Vespertine that blow my mind right from the start (like Joga, Bachelorette, Army of Me etc), I wonder which ones she's going to promote as singles... Who did the sound production for this album, Bjork herself or Mark Bell again? Or Matmos? There's a chance the album will grow on be, but my first impressions are rather negative. Sorry, Bjork fans ;) Nick.

All right. You can cut on the new Autechre all you like, but when you start on Bjork that's getting personal. Bjork can do no wrong, don't FUCK with BJORK!! <giggle giggle...> Zzb ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I have to agree with Nick. The new Bjork album seems nice, but not spectacular. The album is cohesive (except for Matmos' shit remix that shouldn't have been put on at the end), sounds pretty, but doesn't have an emotional rush that her earlier albums give me. I also can't pick out any standout songs, or feel any individuality in the songs either (yet). After one listen of Homogenic, i could easily discern Joga from Bachalorette and All is Full of Love, but I can't discern any track from any track on the new album (save the shit Matmos remix). It also seems WAY more laid back. Either way, it's a good record, but not worth the Bjorkish amounts of hype. -mark Lander wrote:

You should realize, of course, that you're all basing your "reviews" on tracks that are quite likely rough mixes of what will end up on the finished album. I mean, the goddamn thing doesn't come out for another four months or so. There haven't even been any official promos sent out. A lot can change between now and then. Bjork has said herself the album was done in April. The reason it was pushed back until August was so there would be time between Selmasongs and Vespertine. Also, she is using the time to make a video and ponder album art, etc. -mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
